When a good item drops in a group, a roll window opens. Click Need if you'll use it, Greed if you just want it to sell or disenchant, or Pass if you don't want it. Need always beats Greed. Among players who chose the same button, the highest random roll wins. These are the standard WoW controls. We haven't checked every label in the Forever client, so the wording may differ slightly.
The three buttons
| Button | Use it when | Wins against |
|---|---|---|
| Need | You'll equip it now, on the character you're playing | Greed and Pass |
| Greed | You'd sell it, disenchant it or keep it for another character | Pass |
| Pass | You don't want it | Nobody |
The unwritten rule
Only Need what your class and spec will wear. A Mage rolling Need on a plate helmet will get kicked and remembered. If you're not sure an item suits you, check your spec's stats on its class page, or ask the group before rolling.
Loot settings the leader picks
Right-click your portrait as leader to set the loot method:
- Group Loot: everyone takes turns looting common items, and better items get a roll. Good for most groups.
- Need Before Greed: like Group Loot, but you can only Need items your class can use.
- Free for All: whoever clicks first gets it. Fine for two friends, bad with strangers.
- Round Robin: each kill goes to the next player in turn.
- Master Looter: the leader hands out items. Used in raids.
The loot threshold sets which quality starts a roll. Uncommon (green) is the usual default.
Bind on pickup
Some items bind to you when you loot them, so you can't trade them later. Read the tooltip before rolling Need on those.
Getting groups
To find players, see inviting someone to your group or the dungeon finder. Every item we know about is in the item database.
