Does WoW Forever work on Xbox, Mac or with a controller?

Blizzard lists Windows and Mac as where you play WoW Forever. Its starter guide doesn't mention Xbox or any other console, and we've found no Blizzard post announcing one. So as of 3 November, there's no Xbox version we can confirm. You can use a controller on PC or Mac, though.

Controller support

Confirmed from Blizzard's 3 November notes: gamepad support "has entered a complete functional state". Blizzard's starter guide, written a few days earlier, still called it beta, so the newer notes win.

Blizzard says these all work with a controller:

  • Movement, spells, interaction and menus.
  • Ruleset selection and character select.
  • Bags, targeting, focus targets and friendly corpses for resurrecting.
  • Pet commands, flight paths and profession trainers.
  • Settings through Edit Mode and the Options menu.
  • Add-ons should conflict less with the gamepad interface, though Blizzard stops short of saying conflicts are gone.

Which controllers it supports isn't stated in what we've read, so check your Options menu. The button names in Blizzard's notes (LB, RB, LT, RT) are Xbox-style, but that doesn't tell you about any others.

Mac

Confirmed: Mac is supported, and Blizzard's notes include display fixes for it. See system requirements for macOS versions and what you need.

Handheld PCs

Blizzard doesn't mention handheld PCs. If one of them runs the Battle.net app on Windows, the same rules should apply, but that's our reading rather than anything from Blizzard. Unverified.

Getting set up

Start in settings to change, and set your preset with Classic or Enhanced. If add-ons misbehave, turn them off first to see whether the interface settles down.
