The Legacy System is Forever's account-wide progression. Blizzard covers it in its launch post and return guide.

What's confirmed

  • It's account-wide: progress carries across your Forever characters.
  • Blizzard calls it horizontal progression, focused on exploring the game rather than raw power.
  • It has three parts: Legacy Challenges, Legacy Perks and Legacy Rewards.
  • You don't need to level alts to benefit. Blizzard says every advantage can be unlocked on a single character.

What it means for you

If you only play one character, you aren't missing out. If you enjoy alts, your progress isn't stuck on one of them.

From the panel recap

Blizzard's panel recap adds more, also Confirmed:

  • You earn Legacy Points from Legacy Challenges in several categories. Points are shared across your alts, and each character spends them separately.
  • Each character can spend up to 16 points in its Legacy Trees at launch, and you can earn up to 65 points to begin with.
  • The trees include Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness.
  • Well Rested raises rested experience gains and the rested cap, which helps alts.
  • The Reward Track gives cosmetic or prestige rewards, such as a Spectral Bear Cub.
  • Hardcore is handled separately: it's left out of account-wide collections and Legacy Points, though its progress can carry out to other rulesets.

What we don't know yet

  • The full list of challenges and what each one asks.
  • Which perks are worth taking first.

We'll write the details up once we've seen the system in game. Questions in the meantime go in the comments or the forum.
