PvP gear in WoW Forever comes from two things: Honor, which you spend, and Rank Points, which unlock what you're allowed to buy. All of this is Confirmed from Blizzard's PvP progression post unless marked.

Two gear sets

  • Blue set: bought with Honor.
  • Epic set: you need the blue piece, plus an Emboldened Seal to upgrade it. Seals have rank requirements.

Blizzard also added items for specs that lacked them. Shaman, for example, now have healer, melee and caster PvP sets.

Open your Character Pane (C) and pick the Player vs. Player tab to see your rank, your Rank Points and what you can buy.

Honor

  • You earn it by defeating players, finishing battlegrounds and doing PvP quests.
  • Holiday-week battlegrounds give more.
  • Blizzard evened out gains so that Alterac Valley isn't the only efficient choice.
  • The Honor cap was raised to 25,000 and item costs rose by about 50% during the beta (notes of 1 October). Exact item prices aren't published.

Rank Points

  • They come from battlegrounds and PvP quests, with a holiday-week boost.
  • Ranks follow the original game's titles up to High Warlord and Grand Marshal.
  • Each rank has a weekly cap. So you can't reach 14 in a burst. How long it takes depends on those caps, which aren't listed.

Seasons

Each PvP season has weekly tasks that give Honor and Rank Points. Three tasks each season also give a Legacy Point, and they stay available in later seasons. Blizzard calls this the Field of Honor season in its Legacy post, with points at weeks 4, 7 and 10.

What level do you need

The Darkspear Islands battleground is for levels 30 to 60. Levels for other battlegrounds aren't in what we've read. Battlegrounds can mix players from different rulesets, except Hardcore.

What we don't know

  • Stats on any PvP item. We add them only after reading tooltips in game.
  • How much Honor each piece costs.
  • When seasons start and end.

For class picks, see which class should I main. Crits in PvP also have no reduced efficacy now, per Blizzard's 8 October notes, so burst may matter more than in the Classic you remember.
