To unlearn a profession in WoW Forever, open the Professions tab (K), or use the menu bar at the bottom of your screen, and click the X next to it. That's Confirmed from Blizzard's camping post. With a gamepad you hold the button rather than press it, per Blizzard's 3 November notes.

Before you unlearn

  • Whether you keep your skill is not stated. Assume you lose it, as you did in Classic. Unverified.
  • You can relearn from a trainer in the world or a major city. Whether that costs extra isn't stated either.
  • Legacy points are safe. Blizzard gives one point each for reaching 150, 225 and 300 in a non-gathering primary profession, and they're account-wide, so earned points shouldn't depend on keeping it. That's our reading.
  • You can have two primaries, plus all three secondaries, so you may not need to unlearn at all.

A common plan: two gathering professions for gold while leveling, then drop one for a craft at 60. See best professions for every class.

The ranks

Blizzard lists four ranks in this order: Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert, Artisan. Its Legacy post mentions reaching skill 300, so that's the top we can confirm. Trainer level requirements and skill caps per rank aren't published.

Where are expert trainers

Unknown for Forever so far. Blizzard says trainers teach higher ranks as your character level and skill go up, and that a city guard can point you to one, but it lists no names or places.

In Classic, Expert in crafting professions was usually taught by trainers in major cities or out in the world, and the three secondary professions used a book bought from a vendor out in the world. That covers the searches for "expert cookbook" and "expert first aid". Blizzard hasn't said whether Forever keeps those books. Unverified.

We'd rather leave this gap than send you across the world on an old answer. Once we've found them, we'll list each one on its profession page.

Recipes and camp features

  • Over 600 new recipes across professions, per the panel recap, so old recipe lists won't help.
  • A profession's first camp feature comes at skill 20, from starter zone quests or a trainer.
  • Items needing skill 140 or more drop in dungeons and raids, and some are Blueprints from specific bosses.

Skilling up faster

Blizzard's Legacy perks can help: Working Overtime adds a better chance at skill points, and Dedicated Study is a daily cooldown for raising tradeskills. Both need Legacy Points. The Merchant's Favor factions are also tied to tradeskills, and we'll cover them as we learn more.
