Gold matters most at 40, when you'll want your mount and your level 40 skills at the same time. None of this needs an auction house addon or market tricks. We don't list prices: every Forever economy starts from zero on day one, and we'd only be guessing.
UnverifiedBlizzard hasn't published how Forever's auction house works. Players on the official forums are already discussing it, and we'll describe it here once we've used it ourselves.
While leveling
- Take a gathering profession. Mining, Herbalism or Skinning pays from level 1 and costs nothing but a trainer fee. Two gathering professions earn the most while leveling; you can swap one for a crafting profession later. See professions.
- Loot everything, then vendor the grey items. Empty your bags on every trip to town.
- Train only what you use. Rank 1 of a spell you never cast is wasted gold. Your class guide says which ranks matter.
- Don't buy gear you'll replace in two levels. Quest rewards and dungeon drops cover most slots. The dungeons page shows what's in your level band.
- Keep cloth if you have a tailor or a first aider on the account. Otherwise sell it, since new players need it for bandages and bags.
Launch week
- Early on, everyone wants low-level materials and bags. If you gather, sell in small stacks instead of holding out.
- Prices drop as more players reach each level band. Sell what you won't use soon instead of storing it.
- Prices a friend quotes from another ruleset may not match yours. Blizzard hasn't documented whether rulesets share an auction house.
At level 60
- Raids open on 9 December. Consumables, enchants and crafted gear are what raiders spend on, so a crafting profession pays off from that point.
- Your spec's consumables page shows what raiders on your class will buy.
What to avoid
- Never buy gold from third parties. It breaks Blizzard's EULA and can close your account. See what Blizzard's rules say about gold buying.
- Ignore whispers offering cheap gold or free mounts. They're scams or phishing.
