How to fish in WoW Forever, and why the Fishing Bowl matters
Updated 2026-11-03

Fishing in WoW Forever is a secondary profession, so it doesn't use one of your two primary slots. Every character can learn it alongside Cooking and First Aid (Blizzard's camping post). There's a good reason to get it to skill 20 early: the Fishing Bowl.
How to start
Confirmed from Blizzard:
- Find a trainer in the world or in a major city. A city guard can point you to one.
- Learn Fishing. It then appears in your Professions tab (K).
The rest of this works as it did in Classic, so treat it as Unverified until we've checked it live:
- Buy a fishing pole from a trade supplies or fishing vendor, and equip it.
- Cast Fishing from your spellbook, while facing water.
- When the bobber splashes, right-click it to loot your catch.
- Skill rises as you catch fish. Low-skill fishers get away more often in higher-level water.
The Fishing Bowl
Confirmed: at skill 20 you can place a Fishing Bowl at a campfire. You and others sitting nearby get 8% increased stats. It doesn't stack with Blessing of Kings, so it does nothing if a Paladin has buffed you with that, and it shares a one-hour cooldown with other camp features.
That makes it one of the strongest early camp features for groups without a Paladin. A 20-skill bowl is worth the few minutes it takes. See the Fishing page for how it compares.
What else it's good for
- Cooking: fish feeds Cooking, and Blizzard says crafted food can give a small experience bonus as well as stats.
- Legacy perks: Luremaster gives a chance to catch extra fish, and Master Chef a chance of extra cooked results (Legacy post).
- Gold: Blizzard says nothing about prices, so we won't either.
Expert fishing
Lots of people search for an expert fishing trainer. Blizzard's post lists ranks as Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert and Artisan, but doesn't say where Expert Fishing comes from. In Classic it came from a book bought from a vendor out in the world, rather than a trainer in a city. Unverified for Forever: we'll add the location when someone finds it. The professions hub covers the rest.
Tips
- Fish while waiting for a group, since it can be done anywhere with water.
- On a PvP ruleset, remember that you're standing still in the open, and enemy players can reach you.
- Using a gamepad, Blizzard says your own bobber is always targetable.
